BLIND / WITHOUT LOOKING / IN THE DARK

In 2003, while drawing using a lot of pressure one night I learned that I could stay somewhat oriented on the page in the dark by lightly feeling out the marks with either the pen or my fingertips or both. Then I decided to do a month of self-portraits blind in case I ever lost my eyesight.

Over the next month I experimented with mark making, pressure, a couple different pens, orientation or lack of, degrees of detail and more. I just had fun trying out new things, feeling out the marks from the previous pages and so on.
